THIRTY-FIVE children of the Catholic Church at Louna, Russell Islands, received their first holy communion on New Year’s day.
This was during a tour by the Auxiliary Bishop of Honiara John Doninoel to the Russell Islands.
The newly confirmed children came from the communities around Louna.
Solomon Star’s Guadalcanal stringer John Toki said the bishop encouraged parents of the newly confirmed children to help their children serve their God.
Bishop Doninoel also thanked the community for standing by their children and helping them to take the step of confirmation.
He also commended the youth for displaying responsible and good behaviour during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Mr Toki said since this was the bishop’s first visit to Louna, communities there came out in numbers to witness and participate in the various activities.
He said the event ended with feasting and entertainment.
