Next week Catholic Christian mothers throughout Solomon Islands will have an important celebration of catholic women and feast day.
This is the feast day of the Assumption of Mary.
Mothers and women in the archdiocese of Honiara which is Makira, Central province and Guadalcanal will be gathering at Tangarare for one week of spiritual and prayerful exercises.
To be reminded that they are the body of Christ. To be reminded they share in the bread of life.
In Malaita, in the diocese of Auki four to five thousand women are expected to come together at Rohinari mission station.
They will come together as catholic women and catholic mothers under the patronage of Mary the mother of Jesus.
In the diocese of Gizo celebrations will be hosted at Moli in Choiseul and Nila in the Shortlands. Women in the diocese of Auki will come together at Rohinari for the occasion.
Bishop Chris Cardone op of Auki said, it is indeed an important feast day of the church. He added, “Mary the mother of Jesus, is the mother of the church and we rightly call her our blessed mother.”
He went on to reflect on last Sunday’s gospel in which Jesus said; I am the bread of life and those who comes to me will never be hungry or thirty. The bishop added; whilst Jesus gives spiritual food, the bread of life, our mothers gave us physical food.
Bishop Chris continued that we should all remember the fact that our mothers prepare and cook for us, worked in the gardens, wash our clothes, looked after fathers and so forth.
He said all the mothers in the Solomon Islands share in the work of Mary the mother of Jesus who did those same things to Jesus, who did those same things to beloved spouse Joseph.
“And we must remember also as small children when we are sick, mothers are always there to help. They are patient, willing and very strong. Their strength comes from God.”
The celebrations starts on the 12th and end on the 15th August, which is the feast day of the Assumption of Mary.
