WOMEN from the Catholic Archdiocese of Honiara are celebrating the Feast Day of Assumption of Mary at the Saint Mother Theresa Family and Youth Retreat Center at Aruligo in North West Guadalcanal.
Over 4,000 women from 14 parishes and four districts of the Archdiocese of Honiara are in attendance.
The Archdiocese of Honiara covers the provinces of Guadalcanal, Makira-Ulawa and the Central Province, which includes Savo Island, Tulagi and the Russell Islands.
The Feast Day of Assumption of Mary is an annual celebration marking the Catholic Patron Saints every 15th Day of August. The Honiara Archdiocese organizes the Feast Day of Assumption of Mary celebration after every three years in its different parishes.
The Holy Cross Parish is the cohost of this year’s celebration, which started on Sunday and will conclude on Thursday. The theme of this year’s event is, “Women of Prayer: Sowing Seeds of Holiness and Cultivating God’s Love.”
Holy Cross Parish Desk Officer Ms Serah Manedetea said the theme for this year reflects the mothers’ commitment to nurturing spiritual growth, fostering community cohesiveness and deepening their relationship with God.
“The theme also reflects women as mothers in our families as mother faces too many challenges in families and this is the only time we bring mothers together to share, reflect and learn so we can transform our families.
“It’s time for us mothers to reflect, pray and strengthen our faith as we celebrate the grace and strength of women in our Church,” Ms Manedetea said.
Ms Manedetea said the weeklong event involves inspiring talks, worship and other spiritually-enriching activities and furthermore, it provides the opportunity for mothers to build lasting connections with fellow mothers and sisters in Christ.
