THE Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI) will release a new limited-edition $10 commemorative banknote to commemorate the XVII Pacific Games 2023, which will be held in November in Honiara.
The CBSI said the new commemorative banknote will be launched ahead of the XVII Pacific Games 2023.
“A tentative launch date is planned for 27th October 2023. Once unveiled, it will then be widely circulated for use throughout the Solomon Islands as a $10 denomination,” the CBSI said.
“This commemorative banknote is designed to mark the XVII Games 2023, a significant event for the Solomon Islands. The new banknote once officially launched, will both serve as a circulation and a collectors’ banknote as a special token of celebration and remembrance for this sporting occasion of the PG 2023.”
The new $10 banknote has been produced using Safeguard polymer by De La Rue, a reputable currency and security printing company in the United Kingdom.
The CBSI said this choice of material is known for its durability and security features which are difficult to counterfeit.
The CBSI has a longstanding tradition of issuing commemorative banknotes to mark pivotal moments in the country’s history.
The bank said this practice reflects the central bank’s commitment and support for the Solomon Islands Government and its people, as well as its dedication to welcoming participating countries to the XVII Pacific Games 2023.
“The commemorative banknote is not only a means of celebrating the event but also an ideal collector’s item. These banknotes come in limited editions and can be cherished and passed down through generations, making them valuable tokens of the nation’s history,” CBSI said.
The new $10 commemorative banknote will be available to the public after its official launch.
CBSI said this commemorative banknote represents a special way for the Solomon Islands to celebrate a significant event and share its culture and history with both its citizens and visitors.
