HONIARA City Council will be constructing a security fence around the land boundary of Kola Ridge national cemetery.
Clerk to Honiara City council, Charles Kelly said, the plan to erect security fencing around the cemetery compound had been on the council’s drawing board for some time.
He said, construction will start when money is available to meet costs.
Mr Kelly explained the plan to the Provincial Premiers during their meeting in Honiara last week.
He said, Kola Ridge national cemetery deserves respect by all Solomon Islanders since it accommodates burial of people from all parts of the country and overseas.
The city clerk said unfortunately the grave yard ground has often been used by some people as leisure drinking and car washing spot.
He said, those involved in such social activities hold no respect to the death buried there.
A number of Provincial Premiers who spoke to their Solomon Star expressed their full support for the city council to ensure Kola ridge cemetery ground is kept secured and respected by everyone.
