Central Taekwondo team has banged six gold medals in the 2016 Solomon Games Taekwondo competition in the individual category over the weekend to claim the overall trophy.
The Central Taekwondo team coached by the national fighter Alick Delly collected four gold medals in the female individual category and two gold medals in the male individual category respectively to claim the overall trophy with a total of six gold medals.
Apart from the six gold the team also collected one silver medal and four bronze medals which is 11 medals in total.
According to coach Delly, the team was very happy to be crowned as the overall winner in the 2016 Taekwondo competition.
He said the achievement is a huge boost for his team that is made up of mostly new young fighters.
He said given the effort they put into the team during their preparation, he said the victory is well deserved.
He added his young female fighters have done extremely well against other female fighters from other four competing provinces where they scooped a total of four gold medals in their category.
In the team event Central Taekwondo female team lost narrowly to Isabel while the men’s team lost narrowly to Guadalcanal who went on and claimed the men’s team event gold.
The Central Taekwondo team is full of thanks for the Solomon Islands Taekwondo Union (SITU) for organizing the competition together with the referees and judges for the tremendous job well done.
