CENTRAL islands province will receive $4million in funding after they qualified for the Government’s Provincial Capacity Development Fund (PCDF) 2016.
Provincial premier, Patrick Vasuni said this in an interview with the Solomon Star, Thursday.
“It is indeed a big achievement for Central islands province to qualify for this money,” Mr Vasuni said.
He said that he is happy and hope that this money will help them to achieve some of their plans for the people in the province.
“We have received the conformation from the ministry of provincial government last month.”
He said they will meet about the budget for this PCDF very soon so that they can utilize the money.
“With this fund we will do more improvements in the province for our people.
“I want to thank the ministry responsible for awarding us this funding support.
“This is a big achievement and thank you so much for that,” Mr Vasuni said.
Malaita province too received the same money last month.
The Provincial Capacity Development Fund (PCDF) is a performance based grant which has been set up by the national government to provide provinces with investment for small scale infrastructure projects whilst at the same time promoting public expenditure management systems and public financial management systems at the provincial level.
When PCDF started in 2008, SIG and donors (EU, RAMSI, UNDP and UNCDF) contributed equally to the capital development fund accessed by provinces that meet the minimum criteria.
For the first four years, the donors and SIG were each contributing about SBD$5.4million but since 2011, the National Government up-scaled its contribution to $30 million per annum.
