Participants of Central Province have started reviewing the 2nd 2014 Draft Federal Constitution of Solomon Islands during the Province’s awareness program on Monday 27 July 2015 in Tulagi.
Participants included professionals, women, youth and chief representatives and Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs).
Premier Hon. Selwyn Mapuli officially opened the program during its first meeting held at the Education Authority conference room.
The Premier noted that this a gathering of diverse professions and experiences that will need to creatively and analytically review the Draft Federal Constitution.
Chairman of the meeting George Saemane, who is also a Constitutional Congress member representing Central Province made the same observation during the opening session.
It was noted that a cross-section of professionals with legal, education and political backgrounds were invited to this meeting.
“In the beginning of this program in 2007, for Central province we consulted mostly community chiefs, elders and community representatives,” Mr. Saemane said, “Now we are reaching out to the broader community of professionals to contribute to this final drafting process.”
This awareness program is anticipated to be held over four days, which should end Thursday 30th July 2015.
