Solomon Islands swimmers to the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea will have the opportunity to compete in international swimming competitions if they perform to the top standard.
This follows reports this year’s Pacific Games swimming competition will receive international recognition.
The event will be a qualifier for international events.
Solomon Islands will be sending eight athletes for the Games.
Among the eight are three females.
This is first time local swimmers will take part in the Pacific Games.
The Solomon Islands Swimming Federation (SIWF) said this is good news for the young athletes who are so looking forward to give their best shot at the Games for the first time.
The news also comes as a boost to their preparation, which gives athletes a strong determination to put in their best performance.
Fourteen countries are expected to participate in the Pacific Games where 120 medals are up for grabs.
Swimming is among other sporting events that will take place in the first week of regional competition.
