The first Chess competition for this year is set to kick off on Saturday in Honiara.
The competition took place at the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Cooperation (SIBC) Conference room started at 10am.
This was organized by the Solomon Islands Chess Federation.
The draw to determine which group players will join was expected in the morning.
The competition comprises of 56 participants both from chess clubs and schools.
The official program to mark the start of the competition began as early as 8am.
The opening host guests of honour, the Permanent Secretary (PS) Ministry of Home Affairs, Frank Fakari and the General Secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC), David Firisua.
