Acting paramount chief of Visale John Batista Kaoni says Guadalcanal needs change, as he urges the newly elected parliament members and community leaders to work together.
Mr Kaoni told a gathering in Visale people and community leaders must have a new mind-set, cooperate and make careful decisions that are in the best interest of people.
“We talk about developments, but people must work closely with the government and vice versa in order to achieve goals and aims.”
He said it is important for rural people to support members of parliament with new ideas and prayers.
“Education, health facilities and infrastructure are the main drivers of improvement to living standards.
“Often, leaders work independently and so as people, resulting in disagreements which affected a lot of development aspirations.”
He said in order for this year to become a successful year for everyone, people must cooperate starting at the family and village level up to the national government level.
Mr Kaoni said people of Guadalcanal are looking forward to working together with their members of parliament this year.
