A CHIEF from North Malaita has called on the RSIPF to deal with officers at the Malu’u Police station, following a reckless behaviour that happened on Tuesday this week at Malu’u market.
Chief Atalea Maena told Solomon Star Auki that police at Malu’u were seen drunk and carelessly driving the police vehicle around the market area posing threat to the market vendors.
He said such poor and reckless behaviour by these police officers is concerning, and they are calling for full investigation and if possible, the sacking of the officers’ concerned.
“The action of the officers did not go down well with the public as it portrayed a bad image of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), who should lead by example at all times.”
The Chief added, they want police officers who have respect for their job and the public to serve at Malu’u police station and not the other way around.
He said the recent incident is surprisingly unreliable, and people in North Malaita want the Malu’u police officers to be investigated and remove officers who act like criminals in public.
Chief Maena said they are willing to give evidence regarding the misbehaviour, which caught many by surprise this week.
With that, he said the action of Malu’u police has already given a wrong message to the public.
“It is best to remove police officers who misbehave in public from office to allow community leaders to work together with police
“Such police officers have painted a bad image to the RSIPF and other hard working police officers who serve the country with integrity,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Malaita Provincial Police Commander (PPC) could not be reached to comment on this issue yesterday.
