North West Guadalcanal communities wants a new police post to be built close to the Visale area.
The communities made the appeal to the both the provincial and national government.
The call was made following a meeting by chiefs in the area with Church leaders over the weekend.
This is to address the ever growing criminal activities in the area.
West Guadalcanal Solomon Star stringer John Toki who was part of the meeting said chiefs have agreed on behalf of the communities that the area really needs a police post.
West Guadalcanal paramount chief John Batista Kauni said, “West Guadalcanal now desperately needs a police post to be established here.
“Lots of criminal activities are happening in this area but were unattended by Guadalcanal police.
“We only have our police post in Henderson, which is too far from us at the Western Guadalcanal.
“We call on responsible police authorities to look at addressing this issue because we continue to experience alot of criminal activities in the area.”
He said another issue discussed was the logistic support for Guadalcanal police that only one vehicle was for used by the Guadalcanal Police.
“Many times we call for police to attend major incidents here in the West but, all in vain. Lot of incidents was always left unattended.
“Their usual excuse was no vehicle.”
He said lack of police presence in West Guadalcanal also poses a risk for communities, mothers and children especially who were so vulnerable to criminal elements and drunken men.
One of the police post for West Guadalcanal based in Kakabona was burnt down during the height of the ethnic tension.
