The Solomon Islands Chinese Women Association (SICWA) yesterday organized a bazaar sale which also included the participation of local women and carvers at the AJ City Mall.
The association besides giving opportunity to its women also invited members of the Solomon Islands Women In Business Association (SIWIBA) to take part and sale their products.
The SICWA’s vice president Ms. Deng Xiuying said this is a new partnership, which they hope would continue into the future.
She said they are working with SIWIBA and its membership as they see it as an opportunity for them to interact and also sell their goods.
“We provide the space for them for free and they are here to sell their goods and make some money to support their families” she said.
The bazar also falls in line with the Dragon Boat Festival which is marked in China regularly for people to eat dumplings and dragon.
At the AJ Mall, the Chinese Women Association members were selling food including dumplings, whilst the locals were marketing their handicrafts, artefacts and hand made baskets and food as well.
SIWIBA Market Master Grace Kiko who was also on site at the AJ Mall to witness the market praised the Chinese Women for the support.
“This is really good for our women. I must thank the Chinese for this great initiative as it will greatly help us,” she said.
Kiko said this partnership would grow bigger into the future as their plea for help has never been supported or heard by the government.
“This opportunity will help us to sell our goods. We always wanted to sell our produce but never have the venue. We tried to sell our goods at the NPF car-park but they told us to leave.
“Today’s invitation is really good and we look forward to continuing into the future,” she said.
Kiko said with their 200 memberships, SIWIBA will properly organise with the Chinese Women Association to ensure they continue to benefit into the future.
Xiuying said besides the bazaar they are also planning on other activities in the future.
