CHOISEUL Province has acknowledged the election of Manasseh Sogavare as the country’s new Prime Minister.
In a statement on Tuesday, Jackson Kiloe, Premier of Choiseul Province said Sogavare’s election to the Prime Minister’s post is an achievement for the nation who wants to see change.
“On behalf of the Choiseul Provincial government and all our people, I write to congratulate Hon. Manasseh Sogavare for his successful election as Prime Minister of our nation.
“This is indeed a great achievement for him and his colleagues from the National Coalition for Change, and more importantly for our people who would like to see ‘real Change’ in our beloved nation and how it is being governed. Congratulations to everyone.”
He said, from a Provincial government’s perspective, it is refreshing to have someone who has been passionate about provincial government issues, and has voiced concerns regarding limited resources allocated to provincial governments now elected as our Prime Minister.
“There is a big hope from Provincial governments that we are going to see ‘real change’ in how our nation’s resources are being managed for the benefit of everyone, including the majority of our people living in the rural areas.
“We do realize that change does not happen overnight. It is a process and must involve everybody to be effective, appreciated and sustainable. Everyone, through government policies must be encouraged to pitch in and do their part- starting from a change in attitude and misguided belief in the hand-out mentality and dependency syndrome that has been a ‘cancer’ to our nation.
“As you now move into the challenging task of allocating Ministers to respective Ministries and formulating government policies to effect this change, you are assured of our support and prayers.”
