HONIARA City Clerk Charles Kelly has urged the community of Choviri to be responsible as settlers of the area and take ownership of the World Bank funded upgraded road.
He said this while speaking at the official opening of the road project last Friday.
“Population in Honiara City is increasing rapidly, be responsible for whatever you are entitled to under projects or funding,” Mr Kelly told community members.
“Such help comes at no easy cost and should be well looked after,” he added.
Mr Kelly said the Honiara City Council is equally happy for this project at Choviri, one of the essential services to the wellbeing of people and the community at large.
“The challenge here now is to take on the responsibility and look after; that is taking full ownership of what is provided for public use.
“It’s important to see the road as your own and look after it.”
Road Committee Chairman Modesto Walegerea thanked World Bank for funding the project and Rapid Employment Project for implementing it.
“Let me thank the World Bank for providing the fund to complete the project and REP for overseeing the project.
“Without your strong support and assistance, this project won’t come to fruition as what we see today,” Mr Walegerea said.
He added the project is a fine example of stakeholder partnership between relevant donor organisations, the government, and city council.
Mr Walegerea said the challenge for the community is huge and it’s up to the community members to take heed of.
“The challenge for us all now is to take ownership of this project and to sustain it in the future. I thank each one of you for your support and assistance towards the project.”
