Visale Catholic parish celebrated Palm Sunday despite the 7.6 earth quake and tsunami that struck the coastal villages of mainland Makira on Sunday morning.
West Guadalcanal Solomon Star stringer John Toki said the congregation were preparing for worship when the earthquake hits.
“But we have no intention to run for higher ground and continue with our worship.
“We put our trust and faith in God the creator of the universe.”
Mr Toki said that the church program continued without any disruption.
He said that about 10 local churches around Visale parish attended the Palm Sunday celebration.
The program was officiated by parish priest Fr Peter Houhou.
On Sunday some of the main churches in the city were disrupted after their congregation fled to higher grounds for safety when the tsunami warning was aired.
Some of the churches resumed church services when the tsunami alert was cancelled.
