Church Services and large Social gatherings in the Honiara Emergency Zone and areas East to GPPOL2 in the Guadalcanal Plains have been temporarily suspended in view of the surging community transmission of covid-19.
The suspension order was declared by Prime Minister Manasseh recently following the wide spread community transmission in Honiara and the Eastern corridors to GPPOL 2, a statement issued by Government Communication Unit said.
The suspension is effective for both Sabbath and Sunday congregations.
It becomes evident that these gatherings contribute to the increase of community transmission of COVID 19 currently experienced.
Church leaders from GPOL 2 to Poha are kindly requested to inform their local churches, communities, parishes, stations, schools and institutions of the suspension.
The Government seeks the cooperation and understanding of all Christian Churches to enforce this regulation as we all fight together to combat COVID 19 community transmission in Honiara and the country.
The Government will advise when the suspension is lifted.
A team from the office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet is reaching out to church members and institutions in these areas to formally and accurately communicate the temporary suspension.
The government has also written formally to church leaders between GPPOL 2 to Poha areas informing them of the decision and urges church leaders and their congregations to vaccinate.
Already the Solomon Islands Mission (SIM) of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church, the Catholic Church and the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM) have advised their members to follow the orders.
