Initial damage assessment teams have headed for various disaster-struck locations around the Central Islands this week.
This is to assess and verify information about bad weather damage caused by tropical cyclone Raquel.
The Provincial Disaster Committee (PDC) for Central Islands Province (CIP) gave the go ahead for the mission and finalised movement plans early this week.
The disaster committee deployed three teams to conduct the assessments in Russell Islands, Savo and parts of Small and Big Gela.
It is anticipated that these assessments will be run for 7 days, after which the teams will report back to the PDC with verified and quality information.
The Chair of the Provincial Disaster Committee said, he wanted to thank the National Government, on behalf of the people of Central Islands Province, for the support of the National Disaster Management Office to run this operation.
The information gathered will help provide support most effectively to the good people of Central Islands Province.
