The Honiara City Council (HCC) executive has congratulated the bidding team for the successive bid to host the 2023 Pacific Games here in the country.
At the same promised to support preparation work towards the important event.
Deputy Mayor Eddie Ngava, who was part of the bidding team that traveled to Vanuatu, presented a brief report before the HCC executive.
In response, Mayor Fatai and his executive thanked Ngava to represent HCC who accompany the Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and the high level delegation for the bid.
In a decision reached, they have stated that this will be part of the history of the country and are delighted that the games will be hosted in Honiara City.
At the same time it is history for them to be part of the preparations for the biggest sporting event in the Pacific.
However, there is a lot of work to be done within the seven years and the Council is looking forward in working in partnership with the Government and other stake holders for the preparations, the statement said.
Meanwhile, City Clerk Charles Kelly said that on behalf of the HCC Management he also pledge his support towards the Government and NOCSI.
He said there will be more infrastructures and facilities needed for such an event and said HCC management will be working closely with the relevant authorities for the preparations to host the games.
