THE 12 newly-elected Honiara City Councilors have been sworn into office on Christmas eve.
They include four old councilors and eight new ones.
Retaining their seats are caretaker mayor Andrew Leonard Muafor Ward one Ngossi, Jack Maeli Ingi for Ward Five Voekesa, Eric Moses Tema for Ward Seven Matanikau, and Charles Kira for Ward nine Kukum.
The newcomers are Eddie Ngava for Ward two, Mbuburu;Eddie Siapu for Ward three, Rove-Lengakiki; John Wale for Ward Four, Cruz;John Aruhane for Ward six, Vavaya; Bradley Scott Rarai for Ward eight, Kola;Charles Aiwosuga for Ward 10, Naha; Alfrence Inoga for ward eleven, Vura; and Richard Safue for Ward 12, Panatina.
The Councilors’ took their oath before Commissioner of Oath, Stanley Hanu on Wednesday.
Honiara City Clerk, Charles Kelly welcomed the old and new Councilors’ and briefed them of their roles and responsibilities as councilors.
“You got the title ‘councilor’ the moment you sworn in and will remain with you during your four-year term,” Mr Kelly told the councilors.
“This four-year duration is the life span of the Honiara City Council as set out by the law; however the title can be removed for unforeseen reasons such as death,” he said.
Mr Kelly said a detailed induction for the councilors will be done at a later date.
