Law enforcement officers of the Honiara City Council (HCC) have suggested that trees along the Mendana Avenue should be chopped down.
This is because they provide shelter for betel nut and cigarette vendors.
A number of the law enforcers spoken said they are sick and tired of chasing away the vendors because they keep returning to the same spots to sell their betel nuts and cigarettes.
The officers said if the street trees are destroyed, the vendors will stop selling their products there because they will not be sheltered.
They said they have had enough of disobedient people.
They explained the Honiara City Council provides the Kukum market in East Honiara and the areas behind the Anthony Saru Building at Point Cruz for vendors to sell their betel nuts and cigarettes.
They cannot see any reason why the vendors cannot go to the two areas provided by the city council to sell their products, adding if other vendors go there, why not them.
