Plans to demolish old buildings within central Honiara have been delayed, while the Honiara City Council awaits a technical report from its Physical Planning division.
That was according to Town and Country Planning Board chairman, Eddie Ngava.
Property owners between the Hot Bread Kitchen and NPF building at Point Cruz have been issued with notices to demolish their old builds, mid last year.
But Ngava said the demolition orders were yet to be enforced because they needed to get a full report from their planning division.
He said the planning division had been tasked to do a proper assessment and recommend the types of buildings to be built in the central business district.
“We cannot go ahead yet with the plan until we receive the report from our planning division.”
It was also understood the council is considering engaging civil and architectural engineers to design specifications of buildings and the demolition of the existing flat roof ones.
This was because the council lacks the expertise in this area.
They were seeking to recruit qualified engineers and architectures to do the job.
Other building structures considered for demolition are those beyond the City Centre building to former Lillian Dennis building next to the NPF Plaza.
