HONIARA City residents have been urged to come out in good numbers to vote for leaders to lead people of the city and its affairs.
Returning Officer (RO) for the Honiara City Council election Alphonses Peru said now that the national general election is over, all residents should now fix their eyes on HCC elections.
Pero urged everyone to turn out in good numbers like what they did to the national election.
“The HCC election is open for all registered voters of the city to come out and cast their ballots for the leader they wish to represent them in council. This election is just like the national election and people must come out to choose a government to look after the city,” Pero said.
He said it is important that every registered voter must come out and participate fully during the election.
“It is equally important to choose leaders who can look after the city and make policies and plans that will help develop and improve the city of this country as required of its status as a city and for its residents.”
Meanwhile the election date for city council will fall on the 17th December .
Pero said candidates wishing to withdraw their nominations have until 3rd December to do so.
He said a total of 89 candidates have so far submitted their nominations to contest the HCC election after one candidate’s nomination was disqualified for late submission.
The final list of candidates to contest the 12 wards in the city will be made public on the 10th of December.
