THE closure of the only chemist shop in Auki has prompted people in Auki to call for its reopening.
An Auki resident Jonah Myles said the closed chemist was the only chemist in the township that served the entire township and people in Malaita apart from clinics and hospitals.
“That was the only shop people get drugs apart from clinics and hospitals, therefore it should be reopened to give people an alternative choice,” Mr Myles said.
The Auki chemist shop was closed early this year for unknown reasons.
He said, there were times when the clinics and hospitals experienced shortage of the needed medication drugs.
“A chemist shop is not only important during shortage of medication drugs, but people can easily access medication without having to travel to clinics and hospitals.
“The chemist shop provided an important service to people during its operational days, thus it should be reopened and continued its service.”
