The Adelaide Omonia Cobras Football Club (FC) in Australia has congratulated Solomon Islands new coach Josh Smith.
Smith works a Technical Advisor for the club until his appointment as the country’s new coach to look after the national going into the World Cup qualifier.
In a statement on Monday, the club said, “Adelaide Omonia Cobras would like to announce that Josh Smith has been appointed as Solomon Islands National Team Head Coach.
“We congratulate Josh on this amazing opportunity and wish him all the best for the upcoming challenges of preparing for the Oceania World Cup qualification matches,” the statement said.
Josh has been working with the club as Head Coach in the latter part of the season and has been heavily involved in their planning for the 2025 SL1 season.
“Josh will continue working with us and stay on as a Technical Advisor and will return to the club when his contract with Solomon Islands finishes.
“Thank you Josh for your continued efforts in assisting our club to prepare for the future and we have no doubts that you will be successful and make a huge impact in your new role as Solomon Islands Head Coach,” the statement said.
Josh has joined the Solomon Islands football side in Suva, Fiji for the first time since being appointed as the new coach to prepare the boys for the world cup qualifier.
He will use the friendly matches with Fiji and Hong Kong China to watch and assess the players.
The 24-man team comprises of 17 home-based players, five Fiji-based and two Australia-based players.
