The Head coach for Renbel Province football team, Joel Konofilia has been suspended for Renbel’s remaining matches of the Solomon Cup.
This was confirmed to local media on Tuesday by the Chairman of the Solomon Cup Organizing Committee, Eddie Omokirio.
The suspension came about after Konofilia was reported to have assaulted the referee of the match between Western Turtles and Renbel.
Omokirio said Konofilia will not lead Renbel for the rest of the competition.
“A decision has been made that Renbel Coach is suspended from leading Renbel in any match in the Solomon Cup tournament.
“A copy of the decision has been forwarded to the Disciplinary Committee of the Solomon Islands Football federation (SIFF) who will act on for further sanction according to regulations, article 7.
He added there are channels where one should take to address issues as such.
Omokirio said SIFF has condemned the action taken by Renbel’s coach against the referee.
He stressed the consequences of such actions might be bigger than what people think, because now FIFA is tightening its rules.
For this SIFF calls on every citizen to show respect to each other during competitions, whether it be players, team officials or the public.
“SIFF calls on public and any other teams and officials to show respect.
“FIFA wants football to be a game that people want to come and watch in a safe environment where they feel comfortable with and enjoy the matches.
“We must respect the rules, regulations, officials and each other.
“We must create a good football environment during competitions.
“Do not take the lead in provoking situations that will go out of hand,” Omokirio said.
Renbel Coach, Joel Konofilia was humbled and accepted the decision to ban him from the remaining part of the tournament.
However he stressed he does not expect any further sanctions against him.
“Firstly I accept it that I deserved to be banned from our remaining games for the Solomon Cup.
“However I don____t expect any further sanctions.
“This is in light of the situation that provoked me to act in like manner,” he stated.
