Dear Editor – In the past days, a Guadalcanal MP has been through his community agents collecting ID cards from people in villages of his constituency.
The real motive behind this exercise is not known to us constituents.
According to the agents when collecting the ID cards, they claim that distribution of food and relief supplies to the recent flood affected victims will be done according to the ID cards collected.
That was the case when on Tuesday this week 13th of May, the MP went around in his flashy car along with truck loads of rice distributing each 10kg bag according to each of the voter IDs that he had received, those not complying because they uphold their democratic right and not giving in to such corrupt practice for handing their ID cards to the agents are not given any relief assistance by the MP.
Interestingly, at some of his distribution sites, he highlighted that he uses his own families’ money to pay for the goods he distributed.
This raises another question, if that was the case then where are all the public funds under his discretion for no tangible developments has taken place in the constituency during his four years term in parliament, along with this reason, where about is the recent $300,000 given to each MP for assisting flood affected people of their constituencies?
If the sole reason for collecting the Voter ID cards is distributing relief supplies then I see it is a childish and corrupt tactic with clear evidence of shellfish MPs manifesting corruption and politicizing the $300,000 given to each of them in the name of flood affected people with an intention to build support for the upcoming general election.
This is by confining all form of assistance from now until the Election Day only to those voters he had their ID card details scanned and recorded in his file.
I would request this MP and his associates(CDO &committee members) to be transparent and please explain to us the purpose as to why they are fooling the people of our constituency getting hold and recording all the details of every eligible voters only in exchange with goods that everyone in the constituency should get according to his / her constitutional right.
Something that should be distributed to every constituent with no conditions attached.
God Save us from being victims of corruption.
If this activity is the beginning process of an election campaign as how would the MP justify the reasons for collecting voter ID cards for an election not yet conducted to determine distribution of relief supplies and assistance to those he now represent and should be helping them in his current 4 years term.
I would also ask the MP to justify to us constituents why voter IDs now become a key factor for MPs when determining people to be eligible recipients of any assistance from any MP as he stated in one of his speeches (distaem for every MP, ID card Nomo na waka) this was the actual words that the MP said on Tuesday during one of his distributions.
I prefer he uses the medium (SIBC) to clarify this to the people as it has a full and fair coverage to our rural people which the MP still owes them this clarification.
