Blood Bank at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) is running out of blood and is calling on the general public for voluntary blood donation.
A member of the Blood Donation Programme, Fragrana Balova revealed to this paper yesterday that the Blood Bank is in urgent need for blood as the demand for blood is on the rise at the NRH.
She said, the types of bloods on demand at the moment at the NRH are O blood, A+ blood, B+ blood and AB+ blood.
She said, the shortage of blood at the NRH Blood Bank is due to the high demand for blood at the hospital every day.
Ask about which types of sick patients are in need for blood, she said pregnant mothers who lose blood during delivery, people who suffer from blood lose during accidents and sick people who suffer from anaemia.
She said, currently they are conducting blood donation programme at some schools, companies and ministries where she reveals that it’s an ongoing programme.
The blood donation programme is being conducted by the National Referral Hospital together with Solomon Islands Red Cross Society.
Blood is very important where it should be viewed as the first form of medication in human lives she added.
She encouraged those who wish to save lives to come forward and donate blood to save the lives of the needed at the NRH.
