SAVE the Children (SC) last week held a community child forum for communities within the Central Kwara’ae region of Malaita province.
The forum which was part of Save the Children’s Communities Child Protection Project (CCPP) was aimed at informing and making known to both children and the communities of the issues of concern with regards to children and their livelihoods.
Its main goals were to hear concerns that children face within their own communities and even up to the provincial and national levels.
Project leader Simon Mannie Jnr said that out of the total nine communities involved in the forum in the past, only seven communities were able to participate in the forum last week.
“We have had discussions, debates and presentation with regards to current issues children face in their own communities.
“It was somewhat touching indeed not only for us the organizers but also other stakeholders that were involved in the forum last week.
“Especially since children discussed problems they face and solutions that they themselves feel responsible authorities should go about addressing,” Mr Mannie said.
Mr Mannie meanwhile called on all communities and also stakeholders not to ignore and neglect whatever issues and concerns raised by the children, as they do have their rights to express in the modern world society.
