A MEDICAL team from Gizo is now in Noro, Western Province after a person with close contact to one of the positive COVID-19 cases arrive in Noro on Sunday evening.
The person is now under house quarantine.
Director acting for Western Provincial Health and Medical Services (WPHMS) Dr Michael Belande Buin informed the Provincial Health and Emergency Oversight Committee (PHEOC), which he is also a member, during their meeting on Wednesday morning.
The person was in Honiara last week and said to have close contact with the person recently diagnosed with COVID-19 in Honiara.
The person travelled to Noro onboard MV Mariner.
Dr Buin said the medical team will collect swabs from the person and start contact tracing.
Result from the swabs taken is expected to be announced tomorrow (20th January 2022).
The medical team will go into quarantine at Imagination Island – an island resort north of Nusa Tupe.
Meanwhile, PHEOC chairperson Jeff Wickham has appealed to residents in Noro to stay calm and avoid false rumours.
Following reports of a possible community transmission of COVID-19 in Western Province, Gizo Hospital is now into emergency mode.
