HONIARA city council (HCC) will launch its new website at the Kitano Mendana Hotel on Wednesday.
The website is part of council’s long term goal to increase public and government access and engagement to information on council.
The aim of this website is to put council on the line with development and technology and more especially to increase public access to information and transparency.
City Clerk Charles Kelly said the council management is excited about this new development that will put council in the information age.
Mr Kelly said since the inception of council many years ago, council is lagging behind in terms of information access to the public, the government and all other interested parties.
But Kelly said with the launch of this new website, it will give council a great leap in terms of information sharing which will help the public access information and to know more about the functions, ordinances and other relevant information of interest and importance to the public and the relevant government bodies.
“This is the first of its kind for council and we are very excited and proud of this great achievement. This was made possible through New Zealand Aid who for the past years assisted council in many ways,” Kelly said.
Meanwhile the City Clerk said with the launching of this new website the public can now access information in various areas of business licensing fees, rates, council budget, buildings, ordinances, schools, clinics, council services and many more.
