HONIARA City Council (HCC) says it will review the list of contractors it had engaged to collect rubbish in the city.
This came after contractors have stopped visiting the suburbs around Honiara to collect rubbish.
As a result rubbish are piling up outside residential homes and excess garbage are being seen around the big yellow garbage bins.
Mayor Andrew Mua said rubbish collection should continue every day.
However, he said the problem lies with the contractors who failed to do their job to collect the rubbish.
“I told my officers to review the list of contractors,” Mr Mua said on Monday.
“Contractors that fail to comply with their duties will be terminated to give way for new ones,” he added.
Furthermore, Mr Mua said the council could not do much because its garbage truck is in the workshop for maintenance.
However, some members of the public told Solomon Star that HCC needs to do its job by collecting all the rubbish at homes and in the garbage bins.
A resident said the overflow of rubbishes have attracted stray dogs and flies, which is unhealthy and an eyesore to visitors.
