THE Honiara City Council congratulates and welcomed its new councillor Greg Malefo, who was elected in Wednesday’s by-election for Vuhokesa Ward.
Supervising mayor, Eric Tema said the council was pleased with the election results.
“Voters were allowed to exercise their democratic rights without fear or trouble,” Mr Tema said.
“It was a peaceful by-election and we are happy with the result.”
He also thanked other candidates who also contested the by-election.
“This shows the interest you have in helping out with the issues of the council.”
Mr Tema appealed to the new member to cooperate and work together with the other members of the council on vital issues the HCC is trying to address.
Seven candidates have contested the Vuhokesa Ward after the seat was left vacant following the passing away of councillor Jack Igi last December.
Vuhokesa ward covers the Mamanawata, Holy Cross Cathedral, Magistrate, SSEC headquarters, Fijian quarter, Number three and Ports area.
