THE gruesome discovery of a dead couple inside their home yesterday evening has shocked the community of Mbumburu, Lengakiki in West Honiara.
And they are still coming to terms with the incident which is under now Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) investigation.
Initial report said, the husband who is from Tikopia is a teacher while the woman who is from Guadalcanal is a registered nurse working at the National Referral Hospital (NRH).
They have been living together for sometime.
A close neighbour speaking to the Solomon Star last night after the discovery said, since Sunday they haven’t seen them around and again yesterday afternoon.
“We didn’t see the couple for the whole day yesterday (Sunday) therefore today (Monday) we tried to check their house.”
He said when they checked the house, there was no noise.
However the only thing they’ve noticed was, the slippers were still lying in front of the door and there were blue flies moving around.
“And from there we call the police straightaway after noticing the blue flies gathering at one of the windows.”
The man said while they were calling the police the woman’s brother appeared.
The neighbor said they explained to the brother about their attempt to open the door and calling the police.
“The brother called out but there no answer. Soon the police arrive and we opened the door.”
The neighbour said, to their surprise the man’s body was found inside the living room with medicines and what seems like a self-inflected stabbed wounds.
The wife’s body was found inside the bedroom covered in blood.
The neigbour said it was a sad incident and one that he won’t forget.
“The incident has shocked the community.”
He added one thing interesting about the couple is most times they don’t come out of their home and even interact with the neighbours.
“They keep to themselves. After work they would come back and go straight into the house.
“This is their normal practice so when we didn’t see them since yesterday morning (Sunday) we thought the couple are out somewhere or just at home.”
Some of the eye witnesses said it is a highly suspected case of homicide and suicide which is subject to police confirmation.
The bodies were retrieved from the home yesterday and are now at the hospital morgue awaiting further investigation.
Last night many have taken to the social media to express their condolence to families of the deceased.
