A MAN and his wife have been remanded in custody on Wednesday after the presiding magistrate was not satisfied with the excuses they gave in relation to their absence from previous court hearings.
A warrant of arrest has been issued for Michael Taloikwai of Malaita way back 2009 while his wife Jesslyn Kaova of Guadalcnal was issued with a warrant of arrest in 2013.
Both have just been arrested after police executed their warrant of arrests and were brought to the Honiara Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The magistrates questioned why they failed to turn up for their court hearing schedules but their reasons failed to satisfy Principal Magistrate Jim Seuika who gave them custodial remand until February 4.
Taloikwai was charged with one count of common assault in relation to allegation he assaulted another man in 2009 and his wife is facing three counts of larceny.
Police alleged that on March 25, 2009, she stole a purse from a woman, and again on May 26, 2013 she stole a purse containing an ID card, ATM card, a phone and a cash of $670.
Also on that same day she allegedly stole $300 from another person.
