THE Courts officer who has been accused of making inappropriate and inflammatory comments on social media and later disciplined for his action has apologised to the people of Choiseul province.
Georgehill Faifu told Solomon Star on Tuesday that it was never his intention to post what was shared online to the mass.
“Actually someone provoked me and swore at me and the people of Malaita. That was why I ended up posted the inflammatory statement on my private Facebook wall.
“I later deleted the original post, but someone already copied the statement and republished it without my understanding,” Mr Faifu said.
He added that it is those people who shared the post that are contributing in fuelling public anger against him and towards the people concerned.
“I wish to apologise to the people of Choiseul province. To those that are swearing at me and the people of Malaita, I wholeheartedly forgive you,” said Faifu.
Last week, Chief Magistrate Emma Garo assured the public that immediate disciplinary action has been taken against Mr Faifu pending a full investigation.
“The National Judiciary does not condone incitement to violence or racial hatred in any form and will not tolerate any of our officers circulating such views in public forums,” she said.
It was important that the Magistrate’s Court remain completely independent from the events that have unfolded in Honiara over the past few days she said.
“Our role is to objectively assess any criminal charges that are laid as a result of the unrest and determine people’s guilt and impose appropriate penalties where necessary.
“As such we expect all of our officers to maintain a neutral position and execute their duties in a manner that maintains the public’s confidence.”
