THE Honiara Magistrate Court will on December 12 review the arrest warrant of a man accused of intimidating his wife and threatening that he will kill their one-year-old son.
The defendant is facing one count of Domestic Violence.
His matter was mentioned in the court last week for the review of the warrant of arrest issued for the defendant in August.
This was the third time that his matter was mentioned before the court for the review of his arrest warrant.
Police Prosecutor Abel Maelanga informed the court that when police went to the defendant’s residence in Honiara, he was not there.
He said the defendant’s sister told police that he was still at his wife’s village in Weathercoast, South Guadalcanal, and should return anytime in December.
The presiding magistrate, having heard from the prosecutor, suggested that the prosecution to liaise with the Police in Guadalcanal Province to help execute the arrest warrant.
She suggested that the prosecution officer in carriage of the case to talk with his superiors about giving the list of arrest warrants for defendants at large in the Weather Coast region to the Guadalcanal Province police so that when its officers attend other cases there, they can also execute the arrest warrants.
The magistrate told Mr Maelanga that if no proper updates are provided by December 12, she will dismiss the case, which is not good for a Domestic Violence case.
The allegation in this matter occurred on 6 February this year at Veuru village.
It was alleged that about 11pm, the defendant’s wife got woken by the defendant’s loud voice.
The defendant was said to be consuming kwaso (illegal home-brewed alcohol) in their outdoor kitchen.
The wife went out and told the defendant to be quite but he got angry and allegedly told her that he will kill their one-year-old son and bury him.
The sister of the defendant’s wife heard what the defendant said and therefore took the defendant’s son and escaped with him to their neighbour’s area.
The defendant followed them and shouted to her to bring back his son.
His wife’s sister, however, hid the child until the defendant was arrested before returning him home.
The defendant is yet to be allocated a lawyer.
