THE High Court goes on vacation as of this week.
Hearing of criminal and civil cases is halted until it resumes its normal official opening hours on January 18th 2016.
Only urgent matters will be heard during the vacation.
However, this does not mean the High Court is completely closed to the public as its registry office will be opened 9am to 10am and 1 pm and 2pm in the afternoon, Monday to Friday.
This also applies to the Honiara Magistrates’ Court.
The vacation starts this week but the magistrates have been hearing various cases.
Principal Magistrate Jim Seuika when adjourning a matter yesterday said the court will start its vacation next week.
He said no cases will be heard during the vacation and remand warrants will be renewed at the registry office with the appearances of the accused in custody dispensed off.
Only urgent matters are to be heard during the vacation.
A magistrates’ court registry officer spoken to said the registry office will still be open to the public.
