Dear Editor – Thank you for being a member of Forum Gizo. Having a conversation about covid in our region can be a good thing if done constructively and with acceptance of others view point. Let me share my personal observation and opinion of the current measures we are taking;
- PM in his recent statement about covid seems to go along the idea that now that it is with us we should live with it and treat it like any normal viral or tropical diseases (stand corrected). I will come back to this.
- In Western Province all decision about covid restrictions decisions are all Top Down which is okay as that is how the authorities designs the approach.
- This week the WPOC wants a lockdown so we go into a lockdown in Munda, Gizo and Noro again.
- Lockdown is a measure taken to restrict movements of the population thus restrict the spread. Remember it does not STOP the spread. For lockdown to be effective, all covid cases must be identified and isolated.
- Lets take a closer look at our current lock down. It is a fact that Gizo, Noro and Munda are already known covid hot spots. My question to the WPOC is, where do we isolate the positive covid cases in these 3 centres? I know in Noro and Munda they are told to go isolate at home.
- This means that when WPOC asks for a lockdown we could be locking both infected and uninfected people in the same venue don’t you think?. You make your own conclusion what happens at the end of this Lockdown.
OPINION
- All medical science will tell us that no medication, masks, lockdown or vaccination will stop the virus. It will only come down to our personal hygiene and responsibility for a strong natural body immune system.
- It means giving back our freedom to live our lives to practise personal hygiene and responsibility and fight the virus under our own terms and conditions until death do us part.
- Look at the world over who have now open up their country and gave their citizens their freedom. Leana.
