In a celebratory gathering, the Ministry of Police, National Security & Correctional Services (MPNSCS) last week hosted a farewell and welcome event to bid a heartfelt goodbye to the outgoing China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) Team 5 at the same time welcome the incoming Team 6 as they embark on the next chapter of collaboration.
The Minister for Police National Security & Correctional Services Jimson Tanangada, attended the event and extended appreciation to the police cooperation between the Solomon Islands Government and the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
He said, “much has been shared between our respective police forces, driven by mutual respect and a shared commitment to advancing peace, unity and prosperity within our local regional and and international communities.”
Minister Tanangada reflected on CPLT’s lasting impact.
“The CPLT members have consistently embodied the principles of professionalism, efficiency, inclusiveness, transparency, and friendship during their time with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).
“To date, CPLP has successfully delivered numerous aid projects and vital policing equipment, all amounting to millions of dollars in value.”
Minister highlighted Team 5’s valuable support throughout the National General Election, their professional police trainings to boost capacity building of the RSIPF, and their community engagement activities, as well as other upcoming projects they have facilitated.
Minister expressed respect to the outgoing Team Leader Commissioner Zhao Jinyong, who has served in the Solomon Islands for 18 months, for his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment in guiding previous teams in making remarkable contributions to the RSIPF in PG 2023 and NGE.
Minister expressed optimism as he welcomed the new team and the new leader Commissioner Liu Shenghuang, “I have full confidence in your ability to continue the great work of your predecessors. I believe there will be even more opportunities to enhance our bilateral relations between our countries for the betterment of our people.”
The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Solomon Islands, H.E. Cai Weiming, acknowledged the indelible achievement of CPLT, the contribution of the outgoing Commissioner Zhao, as well as the support and help from SIG, MPNSCS, and RSIPF.
He continued to encourage the new team to carry forward the remarkable legacy for an exciting new chapter of shared progress.
“I trust that you will follow good practices of previous teams and work closely with SI colleagues to deliver tangible benefits to the Solomon Islands.”
Ambassador Cai expressed confidence in developing police cooperation between the two countries. “China is continuing to increase material and equipment assistance to RSIPF, offering more training and scholarship opportunities, and promoting high-level visits.”
CSSI (Correctional Service Solomon Islands) Commissioner Mr. Mactus Forau appreciated the strong relationship his organization has built with CPLT teams over the years.
He emphasized his confidence in promoting friendship deeper the deeper, from strength to strength, and generation to generation.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) National Security and Operation Support (NSOS) of the RSIPF, Mr. Ian Vaevaso, also paid tribute to the outgoing team’s invaluable contributions, highlighting their achievements and the strong relationships built during their service. He also warmly welcomed the new team, pledging continued support and collaboration.
The outgoing CPLT Commissioner Zhao Jinyong expressed deep gratitude for warm hospitality and strong support received throughout his 18-month tenure. “I leave with a profound appreciation for the values we share and with deep respect for this beautiful country and its people.”
Commissioner Zhao reviewed the milestones reached through the close cooperation between RSIPF and CPLT.
He also reflected upon the unforgettable memories of his team visiting Honiara and all Provinces to deliver equipment and training, and to interact with residents.
The outgoing team leaves with the assurance that their work will be carried forward by a capable and dedicated new team. “The new team brings a deep commitment to our mission of assisting the development of RSIPF. The new team will continue to thrive, pushing forward with the same dedication and drive that the previous teams all shared over the years.”
