A GROUP of young sailors from USS Barry early this week spent time at the Red Cross Special School to conduct minor repair works.
Report reaching the paper said, the crew were able to do painting and other minor repairs at the school located Rifle Ridge, Tandai area, West Honiara.
Philip Taylor-Bartels, the school’s advisor and Jiope Iputu the principal expressed gratitude over the support rendered by the crew to the students and the school.
“We had a wonderful weekend with the men and woman from USS Barry.
“They worked hard and with courtesy. The hall now looks very bright and clean.”
The expressions on the faces of the students when they walked in the morning was wonderful and very emotional for the staff, it was revealed.
The school management expressed gratitude for the help.
“Thank you to the officers and sailors for helping and involving themselves in this community work.”
“It has given the children and staff a very positive lift and a feeling of friendship with USA.
On Monday evening the school invited a cultural arts dance group to perform as part of a ‘thank you’ BBQ.
The Commander, his officers and his men and woman had a wonderful time it was highlighted.
“Additionally, we had the pleasure of the company of the US Ambassador Catherine Ebert-Gray, she spoke eloquently and personally thanked the sailors.”
