POLICE remain on high alert despite the low crime rate following flash flooding last week in the nation’s capital, Honiara.
Acting Police Commissioner, Juanita Matanga revealed this on Thursday adding that Police are well aware of several opportunists trying to take advantage of the situation and commit unwanted petty crimes.
“Police officers will remain on high alert to respond to emergency and other crime reports from the public.
“We (Police) are well aware that some people would try and take advantage of the situation to commit unwanted crimes such as looting and other disturbances.
“We hope to work together with the public in stopping such nuisance and help everyone recover from the horrors of last week’s flash flooding,” she said.
The flash flooding has so left twenty four people confirmed dead and thousands homeless and in evacuation centres in Honiara.
