PREPARATIONS for the China-funded Auki Tar Seal Road Project in Malaita are progressing smoothly and Malaita Premier Elijah Asilaua has expressed satisfaction over the headway and reaffirmed his government’s full support for the successful implementation of the crucial undertaking.
The contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) Ltd, is now in full swing with the setup of their campsite near the Aligegeo Provincial Secondary School.
The campsite will house the contractor’s office, accommodation for workers and the storage of material for the implementation of the project.
In an update on the progress of the project, CCECC shared that significant strides have been made.
“Camp setup is progressing rapidly, with eight container houses installed, temporary water and power supplies set up, site clearing in progress, and access road construction underway.
“The perimeter fencing and the Aligegeo School diversion have been completed,” it stated
Executive members of the Malaita Provincial Government toured the site before the end of last year to assess the progress firsthand.
The site visit provided an opportunity for the provincial government to stay informed about the development of the campsite.
Once these preparations are completed, the implementation of the project will begin.
Malaita Province Premier Elijah Asilaua expressed satisfaction with the progress of the CCECC campsite setup and reaffirmed his government’s full support for the project.
Premier Asilaua highlighted the significance of the road project for Malaita, which will improve mobility and transportation of produce to Auki, the provincial centre.
“I am really happy with the progress of the campsite preparation for CCECC to begin the construction of the Auki tar seal road,” he said.
