Burglars blindfolds security officers
A group of seven men armed with knives, over-powered three security guards, before they broke into Carpenters Hardware Ltd at Ranadi, East Honiara, around 4am yesterday.
According to one of the managers Chammika Hewawasam, the intruders tied the security guards and blind-folded them before they cut open the chain block to the entrance door with a ball-cutter and carried out their activity.
Mr Hewawasam said the intruders removed laptops, substantial amount of money, liquor bottles and smashed their desktops.
He described it as a ‘planned break-in’ because the intruders knew where the entrance door was and where the items were stored.
He said the break-in happened very fast only within about an hour.
“The break-in has a big impact on the company.
“But I don’t know how much it cost in its monetary terms,” he said.
Mr Hewawasam said this was a first burglary incident to have happened to the company.
He said the break-in is similar in nature to the one committed at ANZ bank at Panatina Plaza three years ago.
Naha Police is investigating the incident and hope to arrest the suspects.
Police appeal to public who may know the suspects to come forward and assist them with information.
Carpenters Hardware is owned by Malaysians with its head office in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
