CORRECTIONAL Service Solomon Islands (CSSI) officers are now providing security services at the government designated quarantine stations.
That’s according to the Attorney General (AG) John Muria Jnr, when speaking at the national-talk-back-show on the national broadcaster in Honiara, last Sunday.
Some listeners during the talk-back-show questioned the panel members, why there’s a security change at the quarantines.
Responding to the concern, AG Muria Jnr said it was an administrative decision for CSSI to provide security service at the quarantine stations.
“It is an administrative decision, but then we can understand that our prison service officers are our authorized officers to provide security at any quarantine stations,” he said.
He said when they manning the quarantine stations, by law they are already authorise officers, which they are eligible to do the job.
Whereas our local security firms or security guards are not authorise officers, they are there to keep the gate, that’s all.
But CSSI officers are authorise officers under the regulation which they can also do arrest, he added.
“Our prison service officers are authorise officers under the regulation; they can do arrest,” he said.
