IN a welcome parade on Tuesday, the Correctional Service Solomon Islands (CSSI) received Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) delegates who are here for an Early Management Development Program (EMDP) at the CSSI Headquarters at Rove in West Honiara.
The EMDP Program specifically targets capacity development for CSSI staff with frontline managerial or supervisory responsibilities.
At the welcome ceremony, CSSI and QCS also presented 10 Early Management Development Program (EMDP) Diplomas to CSSI staff who have recently completed their qualifications.
They did their training both in Solomon Islands and in Australia for two weeks.
This CSSI and QCS twinning program and EMDP Diploma training through the Solomon Islands-Australia Justice Partnership is supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Speaking at the ceremony was the General Manager Capability and Development QCS Academy, Chief Superintendent Alan Butler, who was the Guest of Honor.
“In 23 days, it will be six years since the first Memorandum of Understanding between QCS and CSSI was signed on the 19th of September 2018.
“Today, it is very important for us QCS to again acknowledge [Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services] Permanent Secretary Karen Galokale and [CSSI] Commissioner Mactus Forau for signing our current MoU on 28th of April 2023 for a four-year period,” he said.
Chief Superintendent Butler added that the training for CSSI under the program – Intel Awareness Foundation Program and Information and Probation Parole – could be delivered this week to deployment participants with the trust that it will be beneficial to the service.
He congratulated the nine CSSI officers who received their diplomas during the welcome-parade-ceremony.
“I want to congratulate officers who received their diplomas today.”
Chief Superintendent Butler said, though separated by thousands of kilometer, the partnership between QCS and CSSI recognizes their common purposes of protecting the safety of their communities and rehabilitating persons going to their custodial supervision.
“On behalf of myself and the other members of QCS present today, I would again thank you for your participation in the MoU and my best wishes to all personnel on parade for your service to the Solomon Islands through being a member of CSSI,” he added.
Other QCS delegates include the District Manager Community Corrections, Jade Baker, Senior Trainer Travis Thone-Kain and Leadership Senior Trainer Lisa Swann-Dalmau.
Attending the ceremony were CSSI Commissioner Forau and his Executive Management Team, the CSSI Platoon, MPNSCS Permanent Secretary Karen Galokale and DFAT officials.
