The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Solomon Islands, His Excellency José Manuel Galego Montano on Wednesday afternoon paid a courtesy visit to the Health Minister, Dr. Paul Popora Bosawai and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Executive.
The Health Minister Dr Bosawai acknowledged and welcome the Cuban Ambassador and highlighted the key-role Cuban Government and Solomon Islands established since 2017-2019 through the Bilateral Medical Agreement.
Dr Bosawai stated through the establishment of the health relationship with Cuba, Solomon Islands has quite a number of doctors who have completed the medical bridging program, and now currently working as medical doctors in the National Referral Hospital and the medical centres throughout the country.
“Our current mandated portfolio is by building a robust health workforce, and through your contribution over the past years it has contributed to our vision and mission, that is strengthening our health workforce, and I am grateful for that,” said Dr Bosawai.
In his address, Ambassador H.E Montano thanked the Health Minister and stated the Government of Cuba has had a very good relationship with Solomon Islands. He hopes to continue that relationship, especially in the health sector.
H.E Montano through the discussions outlined some medical and public health support that the Government of Cuba and Solomon Islands can further discuss and work together to achieve.
Meanwhile, Health Permanent Secretary Mrs. Pauline McNeil thanked and acknowledged Ambassador Montano for his visit to MHMS Headquarters. “Good to note that you are looking to renew our relationship, and this is a opportunity that we can further discuss and dialogue”.
