THE coronial inquiry into the death of David Saemala in police custody in June last year will resume on April 10.
The doctor who carried out the post mortem on the late Saemala is expected to be called to give evidence on that day.
The hearing was supposed to continue last Friday after did not proceed on Thursday.
That however, did not happen as two police witnesses who were supposed to give evidence in the inquiry did not turn up.
The Director of Public Prosecution Ronald Bei Talasasa, his counsel Ishmael Kekou and a Police Sergeant from the Professional Standards & Internal Investigations (PSII) of the RSIPF were present to assist the coroner on Friday.
As a result of the absence of the two witnesses, the coroner Chief Magistrate John Numapo further adjourned the matter.
There are a total number of 59 witnesses to give evidence in the inquiry and 12 witnesses have so far given their evidences.
The coronial inquiry was conducted in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court to hear evidences and testimonies from police officers and family members of the late Saemala who died in police custody on the morning of 27 June 2017.
The late Saemala and his two friends were taken to Watch House by police on 24 June 2016 for safe keeping because they were under the influence of liquor and causing disturbances to the public opposite the Honiara Central Market.
However, whilst at the Watch House, police found he has a warrant of arrest and therefore he was not released the following day.
He was kept at the watch house until 27 June 2016, four days later, when he was found dead in cell four.
