FOUR senior teachers at St John Dala Catholic School are threatening to leave the school following what they described as “regionalism and discrimination” at the school.
The teachers’ move came after they sighted a letter addressed to the Auki Catholic Diocese teaching service commission director stating that the school did not need the services of “Are’are teachers”.
According to the letter sighted by the Solomon Star, no person from Are’are should hold responsible posts in the school.
The teachers affected are deputy principal secondary Herman Hereiano, senior secondary teachers Godfrey Waronitepe and Jerom Lamusi and assistant teacher primary Maryfred Hairiu.
All these teachers are from Are’are and they claimed that the letter was written by a senior teacher in the school.
The teachers said this is unusual and reflected a behavioural and attitude problem which can remain and explode again in the near future.
“We are also questioning the credibility of such professional leadership which clearly explicit pure unfair, unjust, insensitive and prejudice oriented character, unfitting for educating of young Solomon Islanders,” the teachers said in a statement yesterday.
St John Dala Catholic School currently enrols more than 300 students from around the West Kwara’ae Region.
The school is administered by Marist Society Group of the Catholic Church. It is the second Catholic operated school, apart from Auki Catholic School.
